Victor Olalerin: The Scoring Machine Powering Reading Rockets' Historic Treble Season

Ultimate confidence – Fierce Competitor – Winner.

These are some words you can use to qualify Victor Olalerin, and his performance this season encompasses all of this.

The first time I met Victor was at Uxbridge College at the London Cavaliers scrimmage in 2022. He was “Victor 1” and I, “Victor 2” and I didn't understand it because I’m older than him. (This reminds me of Jeff Teague talking about Brad Stevens calling him "Jett" and Jayson Tatum "JT" during a hurdle.)

After a few sessions, I thought to myself - Victor is a freaking ball hog. He wanted the ball all the time, shot it when he got it, and only looked to score, but I couldn’t help but admit that he delivered more often than not. The man can put the ball in the bucket with the best out there.

His confidence and scoring instincts were undeniable

In the following seasons with the London Cavaliers and Essex Rebels, he led both teams in scoring, averaging 17.2 ppg, shooting over 40% from the field.

Fast forward to this season, the 25-year-old played a key role in Reading Rockets' success as they won their first D1M Playoff title since 2012/13, completing an NBL National Cup, KitKing Trophy, and Playoff title treble in the process. The sparkplug off the bench went 10-17 from the field, going 9-9 from 2, as he dropped a team-high 26 points, earning the MVP honors.

With the 2024 season wrapped, one thing is clear: Superleague teams should be taking notice. Victor Olalerin isn’t just ready for the next level—he’s built for it.
